The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) concludes the story of Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves of Erebor. Following the death of the dragon Smaug, who attacks Lake-town, the treasure of Erebor becomes the focal point of a massive conflict. Thorin Oakenshield, consumed by greed, becomes increasingly obsessed with reclaiming the Arkenstone and the wealth within the mountain, causing tension within his group and with other factions seeking their share.
As tensions rise, the elves, led by Thranduil, and the men of Lake-town, led by Bard, march towards Erebor, hoping to claim part of the treasure. However, the arrival of goblins and wargs led by Azog the Defiler escalates the situation into a full-scale battle. Bilbo, determined to prevent bloodshed, secretly gives the Arkenstone to Bard in an effort to negotiate peace. His actions, however, anger Thorin, who is blinded by his obsession with the treasure.
The epic Battle of the Five Armies unfolds, with the forces of men, elves, and dwarves fighting against the goblins and wargs. Thorin leads his dwarves into battle but is severely wounded, and in his final moments, he reconciles with Bilbo and dies a hero. The battle results in the defeat of the goblins, but not without significant loss of life.
In the aftermath, Bilbo returns to the Shire, his journey complete. The dwarves, elves, and men reach a fragile peace, and the mountain is restored. The film ends with the lasting impact of the battle on the characters, and the legacy of Thorin and his companions is cemented in the history of Middle-earth.
